On an afternoon in the 1920’s, after a long life of ups and downs as a seedy vaudevillian, Tom Sawyer - who has performed under the name of Thomas Gray - returns to the hill that was his boyhood playground outside the village of Hannibal, Missouri, on the Mississippi.
At the end of his rope, he is desperate to locate, or at least find out about, his childhood pal, Huck Finn, who was the fun-loving, ragtag son of the town drunk. Instead, Gray encounters a reclusive old gentleman named Henry Finnegan who greets strangers with suspicion and a shotgun. An adventure down memory lane with humor and wisdom.

Reviews
Both Huck and Tom are burdened with guilt over adult life transgressions that seem very contemporary and are best not revealed here, since they’re the play’s only surprises. Bob Weick as Huck and Steve Hatzai as Tom make the most of the material, rekindling an old friendship with heart and humor, and finding amid their regrets some hope for the future. Wise’s handsome production includes a spacious porch and yard, plus the Mississippi River lookout where Tom and Huck played as children, lit expressively and accented with nature sounds. The Boys in Autumn pleasantly revisits the novels that many Americans read in childhood, and that memory deepens this experience; it’s a pleasant, wistful story made compelling by the actors’ sincere performances.
